Akrapovic is a Slovenian maker of luxury motorbike exhaust systems that was founded in 1990. Igor Akrapovic, a racer and enthusiast who won many Formula One and World Superbike championship titles, invented Akrapovic exhausts. Based on his experience in motorcycle tuning and racing, he built his own motorcycle exhaust system. The systems are noted for their influence on performance, lightweight, durability, and sound by replacing steel with high-quality stainless and using titanium in a unique way. In motorcycle racing, Akrapovic is a global exhaust supplier for MotoGP, Superbike, Supersport, Supermoto, Motocross, and Enduro. They rose to worldwide prominence thanks to the assistance of top racing teams. By the mid-1990s, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, Ducati, and Honda had begun to use the exhausts.
Many motorcycle manufacturers have partnered with Akrapovic to provide Akrapovic exhaust as factory or dealer-fit options.
Igor Akrapovic began racing motorcycles in 1977, first in 250 GP two-strokes, then in 1000 cc four-strokes in F1 Open Class, and finally in Superbike class by 1988-1989. With a team of six, he started Scorpion, a motorcycle tuning company where they produced their own exhausts since higher-quality Western aftermarket exhausts were too expensive, and those made in the Eastern Europe were of poor quality. According to Akrapovic, the low quality of aftermarket exhausts offered to the general public compared to those utilized by professional racing teams inspired him. He said that the market's welded pipes had excessively thick walls, and that racing-quality systems were too costly and impossible to procure for the common user. Based on his knowledge in the field of motorcycle tuning, he created his own exhaust system that was enough for his needs. Carbon fiber and plastic have been used to replace steel.
Recently, Akrapovic produced an exhaust for the American muscle sports car Chevrolet Corvette C8. This is the first time Akrapovic forayed in a American car market exhaust system.
